In March: ”Belinichy orphanage”

In March we have started visiting our kids again after a whole month of quarantine in the orphanage. Because of a long period of our absence, the kids were very glad to see us again, and they have been preparing to our meeting. Especially the youngest ones. It was very pleasant to see their happy faces as they were running towards us with the words “Mom, I’ve been missing you so much!” and hugging us tight afterwards.

Even their housemistress shared her notice of how the kids were missing and getting ready for the meeting. The children were playing games extremely actively and were doing it with great pleasure. They were very attentive while listening to the story about Lazarus and the rich man. At the end of our lessons we always try to present the kids with some colouring pictures according to the discussed topic in order to help them memorize it and give them a visual example. I was very surprised to see that the children save all these colouring pictures with which they were working during the lessons in separate folds and that they do the colouring itself more seriously. One can see that this is important for them.

We also watched the cartoon “God-Man”. The kids reacted in different ways and all of them were impressed by it very much. While watching they were asking a lot of questions, empathized the plot and were very active during the discussion afterwards.

For the elder children there were also discussions on the topics “Alcohol” and “ Hypocrisy”. Dima told about what influence the alcohol brings on the human’s organism, that there is a danger of addiction and a lot of harm for a man. Zheniya talked about hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is a sin of duplicity. The hypocrisy is based upon lie, and the father of lie is the devil. The life of a hypocrite cannot be a life in God, his life is always controlled by the evil inclination. “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined” (Matthew 12:25). A hypocritical, double-hearted person lives two lives at once. One of them can be seen by others, and the other one is internal and hidden.

In March: “Vileyka orphanage”

Hello, dear readers!

Our service in Vileyka is going on. We have many plans for children there and I hope God will help us to make them come true. But first things first.

We still learn the Old Testament. We have a plan to dedicate this year to learning the Old Testament, and next year we will learn the New Testament. I can’t but say that children know the biblical stories of Samson, Saul, David and Solomon as well as the children from our Sunday school. When we repeat the learnt stories they participate actively in discussions, answer all the questions and draw the right conclusions. I am glad our work is not vain and God’s Word is sowed. Children are attached to us already and wait for us every Friday. They are worried when someone from our team hasn’t come and send regards to this person.

I want to share with you our plans for this summer. We want to make a camp for children in June. We have an agreement with the administration already. The only thing we have to do is to find the place for the camp and money. That’s why I ask you to pray for it, for this financial problem, for the team, programme and the place as the people we’ve already arranged, denied us. We are worried about it as the administration is waiting for this camp and we don’t want to get in wrong as they can forbid us to come. Please don’t forget to pray for us. And if you can help us financially, we will be happy. May God bless you!

In February: “Smilovichi orphanage”

I would like to share with you the news about visiting Smilovichi orphanage with its lovely kids by our team. This month there have been 14 kids, because the government started to check homes where kids are neglected.
Our aim was to make friends with the new-comers and attract their attention to bible lessons. The new kids were quite open and friendly so they soon joined us in games and crafts. We were happy to notice that two of the new-comers had read the Bible and had known main bible stories and Christian values well.
This month we continued to speak about Jesus and His life on earth. We spoke about the manifestation of His unconditional love to people, His acceptance of each sinner who turned to Him with faith. We discussed how to pray and trust God, despite circumstances and pain! So we need to remember that the Lord is not far from us, He is faithful and will never leave us.
During that time the kids have become friendlier; they have quarreled and fought less. Even their governors take notice of it and praise the kids for that.
We could bring joy to the kids by word and deed. We bought washing and cleaning things. We also brought sweets and soft toys. Thanks God for the opportunity to come to this orphanage and share the good news with these kids!

In February: “Rudensk orphanage”

Another month of serving in Rudens boarding school has passed; it was saturated with various meetings. Each trip is like a small block, which would form a solid foundation for their future lives. That is why we responsibly choose topics for discussions. We like to explore topics that are most relevant for these guys at the moment.
We had several discussions on such topics this month, and then we had sports relays.
The first topic was about gossips. When we asked these guys if they had encountered rumors, a lot of them responded with a bitter smile. It appears, lots of guys are suffering from being gossiped and being talked behind their backs. Once we talked and showed how the Bible reacts to the ones that spread gossips, and we gave practical advices on how to deal with gossips at the end of class.
Other than topic discussions, we had sports relays. Everyone was given a set of interesting tasks, which helped us to determine their quick thinking, reaction and motor skills. We are interested in both physical and mental development of these guys. It was a useful and fun event.
We celebrated two holidays this month: Valentine’s Day and National Man’s day. That is why we spent remaining two meeting on talking with guys about love and what being a “real man” is. We also included God’s outlook on these topics. Since the majority of our audience are teenagers, the topic of love and personal relationships is their favorite. Since they don’t have parents, they have no mentors who could teach them how to build and develop relationships. That is why we used examples on how God wants us to build such connections. Besides, any boy wants to become a real man, and any girls wants to finds such man. Unfortunately, Internet cannot express girls’ expressions when we said on the last meeting that today would be a topic about “real men”. Even though this topic was directed towards boys, girls have expressed a huge enthusiasm during discussions.
As a conclusion for this month, we can safely assume that their lives are changing for the better. Just like a big tree grows up from a small sprout, such meetings with God will completely change their fated for the better. Thank you everyone, who does not forget about our orphans and takes care of them!

In January: “Smilovichi orphanage”

The long anticipated snowy winter has finally come to our country.
Children and adults alike are filled with joy at the sight of the mounds of snow, the crisp winter air, and the great opportunity to ice skate, ski and sled. There have been days in which due to the large amounts of snow it was difficult to get to our kids. We had a little less travel to Smilovichi than usual. At the current moment in our shelter there are 9 children, a few of which we have known for a long time. However, there are several new children that we have only known for a short time. Our children are a variety of ages. Due to this we have to select lesson plans that are suitable for young children and teenagers. At one of our meetings we reviewed the Bible stories we had already been over with the children. It brought me great joy to see that the children remembered the Bible stories we had taught them. At the last meeting we taught the children about the miracles that Jesus performed while He was on the Earth. As an example of Jesus’ miracles we used the stories about Jesus walking on water, and the story of the blind man named Bartimaeus. We used the stories to teach the children that if we believe and trust God that He can do amazing miracles in our lives. However, if we loose heart and begin to doubt God we miss out on so much. Since there are younger children sitting in on the lessons we always try to have a coloring sheet that goes along with the theme of the lesson. We use the coloring sheets as a visual aid to the story.
This month we also had the opportunity to give each child a personal hygiene kit. We also gave them, a sweet treat at the end of each lesson. Therefore, we are especially grateful to those who help our ministry financially!
